Billy Liar

”One of the great movies of the 1960s.”

 – New York Times

The legendary John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy) helms one of the most memorable and universally acclaimed films of the 60’s which was predominantly shot in Bradford. Billy Liar stars Tom Courtenay (Quartet) in a star-making turn as Billy Fisher, and is supported by an effortless performance from Julie Christie (Darling).
Running from an unsympathetic working-class family, a pair of demanding fiancées and an insecure job at an undertaker’s, Billy escapes into a world of fantasy where he can realize his dream ambitions. As work and family pressures build to new intolerable levels, Liz (Christie), enters Billy’s drab life and offers him the one real chance he’ll ever get to leave the past behind in this story that has been delightfully described as the British cousin of Walter Mitty.
