Learn

Whatever your age, level of interest or experience there are many opportunities to learn about film and filmmaking in Bradford.

Primary aged children can learn about film via a unique film literacy programme designed to improve their literacy attainment levels. Secondary aged pupils study the ways in which films create meaning as part of the English National Curriculum and can choose to take Film and Media Studies GCSEs, A levels and BTEC Diplomas. 3 colleges  and the University of Bradford provide over 45 training courses, ranging from introductory courses up to post-graduate, PhD level and professional development.

Alongside formal education and skills training there are plenty of informal film education opportunities on offer. If you fancy trying your hand before you make a bigger commitment, this is the place to do it! The National Media Museum offers a variety of film related activities throughout the year including a 48 hour film school, film study days, animation drop-in sessions and movie trailer workshops and film festivals.  Their Film Extra day schools and evening classes are open to any adults with no previous experience or qualifications required. Culture Fusion offer filmmaking workshops for young people during school holiday periods.

As a result of City of Film, by 2020 Bradford will be home to more filmmakers both formal and informal.  City of Film brings all of Bradford’s opportunities to learn about film under one umbrella.  Find out more under Film Courses and Training, and check out what our partner organisations can offer by clicking on the links to their pages.
